Drawn to themes of tension and contrasting themes, she traces her upbringing amongst rigid southern American values to her experience as a femme lesbian woman. Tanner depicts imagery of objectification and commodification of the female body and reclaims agency through her queer gaze. Her paintings are saturated and gestural, with references from vintage magazines, iconic early 2000s media, and imagery from rural America. She is working on her BFA at OCADU for Criticism and Curatorial Practices.
